If you’re planning an overnight stay in Harriman State Park or nearby Bear Mountain State Park, do yourself — and fellow campers and hikers — a favor: make a bear bag to store your food overnight, so you aren’t attracting the big bruins for which state park campsites and campgrounds are famous.
Here’s the best video we’ve found to show you how to do this.
Stay safe.
I love German pancake. I’ve always cooked it in a cast iron skillet though (in the oven). I’ll have to try cooking it in a casserole dish and see how that turns out.
Great video. And no problems in Harriman or the Catskills. In a place with far fewer trees, you probably want a bear canister. Two things not mentioned in this video: 1. You want your bear bag or canister a nice distance from your campsite (say, 100 feet), and 2. You shouldn’t be eating — at all — near your campsite; fire, hot water, okay — food, no.
