Harriman trails can be notoriously punishing on your knees. Check out these bargain poles, from Cascade, at Costco.
We have a Costco here in Port Chester, New York. Last week I found a pair of carbon fiber Cascade Mountain Tech trekking poles there for $29.00.
So far, so good. These are not the best poles you can buy, but are by far the best you can buy for the money. They are extremely light-weight and comfortable. They may break on the trail (compared to aluminum poles, which might just bend, but not break). You might not want them for a hike that lasts a couple days, but for day hikes (and as a gift for day-hikers), they’re just perfect.
Costco’s Cascade poles have everything the other guys’ carbon poles have and so I wonder, is it okay to just spend $30.00 on such a thing, and get away with it? Do I have to spend over $80.00?
There are lots of ups and down on the Harriman Trails — the Timp-Torne trail and the Ramapo-Dunderberg trails are especially uppy-downy — and your knees will thank you for these poles. At this price, get a couple pairs.
